While walking through Sailfest last weekend, my wife and I were dismayed by the number of people walking their dogs on the hot pavement. I love dogs and, like most dog owners, I think I have the best dog in the world and would love to show him off. What people don't realize is that when the temperature is in the 80s and 90s, the pavement gets extremely hot. Add a dog that is only three to nine inches away from the pavement and you have a stressed and overheated dog that is not having fun.
Imagine yourself on all fours, with no shoes or gloves, crawling on hot pavement, with no water available, and you get an idea what it is like for your dog. Do your dog a favor and leave him or her home in the air conditioning or in front of the fan. Thomas Snow
