Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails happens in New London

Kids, it's your turn. While a lot of summer festivals aim for an across-the-board audience, Fish Tales, Tugs and Sails zeroes in on activities that will entertain youngsters. And educate, too, although - sssshhh - the children don't have to know that.

This event's goal is to make reading and learning about the environment fun.

Here are some specifics of what visitors can do at this year's fest, happening Saturday at New London's Waterfront Park:

Board the tug boats docked at the Custom House Pier.

Explore the touch tanks on Project Oceanology's Enviro-Lab.

Tour the navigation station on a 19th-century-style tall ship.

Take in the live performances - music from Steve Elci & Friends, "Creative Dance" with L'Ana Burton, and karate by Gabrielle's Karate Team.

Listen to authors read, including Josh Chalmers offering "Change the World Before Bedtime" and Sheila Murphy Adams going through "The Coolest Kids in School."

And sample cupcakes from the East Haven-based Sugar, a winner of the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars."
