New London man bites judicial marshals after refusing to surrender items

New London — State police said a New London man bit two judicial marshals from the Department of Corrections on Thursday, following an incident in which the accused refused to give up personal items.

The two marshals were treated for minor injuries, according to the police report.

Police said the two marshals had asked the accused, Bruce D. Skidgel, 24, of 80 Maple Ave., to remove some personal items he was wearing, while taking him into custody on Thursday. Skidgel refused when asked several times to remove the items and became “uncooperative and combative” when the marshals tried to remove them, police said. During an ensuing struggle, Skidgel bit the two marshals, according to the police.

Skidgel was arrested and is due in New London Superior Court on Aug. 14, police said. The charges were not available.
