East Lyme teen struck by car listed in good condition

East Lyme — The 16-year-year-old girl who was hit by a car while running on Route 1 was listed in good condition Wednesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Brenna Cantwell of East Lyme was struck by a vehicle on Route 1, just west of Heritage Road, at about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. Police and the Flanders Fire Department responded and found Cantwell on the roadway suffering from multiple injuries.

Cantwell was initially taken for treatment at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Yale-New Haven.

Police said the driver of the car, Sanford Desopo, 73, of 249 Boston Post Road, Old Lyme, was not injured in the accident.

Route 1, in the area of the accident, was closed for nearly an hour and a half as police conducted their investigation.

Police said no charges have been filed.
