The Day got it right on Davis Farm editorial

It was gratifying to read your editorial, "Small cost to protect our rich history" (Aug. 24), supporting acquisition of the Davis Farm by the Stonington Land Trust to assure its preservation.

As you noted, Stonington's Open Space Acquisition account is funded by developers who pay a fee in lieu of providing dedicated open space when building subdivisions in town; such funds are thus dedicated to open space preservation. The contribution being requested by the Conservation Commission for the Stonington Land Trust will come from this account. There are no taxpayer dollars involved.

Given the history of the area and the farm as outlined in the editorial, it is indeed a small cost to pay to help preserve our rich heritage. It should be overwhelmingly supported by the townspeople.
