    Nutmeg Board of Approved Baseball Umpires - Seeking interested candidates to join local affiliate of Connecticut State Board of Baseball Umpires for 2015 season.     IABBO Eastern Connecticut Board 8 - Seeking candidates that are interested in becoming a high school basketball official for the 2014-15 basketball season. Candidates must attend the rules classes that will prepare them for the written exam on Monday, Nov. 3.     10th Annual Bill Jerome Mad Dog Memorial Golf Tournament — Friday, Oct. 17, River Ridge Golf Course, Griswold, 9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. shotgun start. Format: Four-person scramble.     Great Neck Country Club Men's Invitational — Sunday, Oct. 19, with tee times ranging from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Format: individual gross and net.     RUNNING

    Groton Parks and Recreation Mixed Doubles 10K Relay Race - Saturday, Sept. 27, 4 p.m. (race day registration from 2:30-3:30 p.m.), Esker Point Beach. Just like mixed doubles matches in tennis, runners will partner with an opposite-gender teammate. He runs 5K first, then she runs 5K. Team scoring is by combined ages in these categories: Open, Brother-Sister, Mother-Son, Father-Daughter. The Open division includes Husband-Wife and any other male-female team. Single runners may register and join the "Singles Bar" on race day to find a partner. The 5K loop is flat, fast, and scenic, winding through scenic Groton Long Point and Noank.
