Opening Night Spectacular for Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra (ECSO) launches its 68th season on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center in New London. ECSO Music Director Toshiyuki Shimada conducts "The Opening Night Spectacular" in a six-concert series, from October through April, which features music from many countries in an armchair trip around the world.

Henry Kramer, guest piano soloist, plays the incomparable Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2. Augusta Read Thomas, composer, will give the pre-concert chat highlighting the works about to be played on the program including her own Aureole (Halo), and Kancheli's A Little Daneliade plus Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini. The orchestra and Toshi Shimada were recently profiled in the New York Times for interesting and innovative programming.

Tickets to this concert, which is sponsored by The Friends of the Symphony, can be purchased online at or by calling the ECSO office at 860-443-2876. For more information, visit the ECSO at or on Facebook.
