New London firefighters extinguish porch fire on Colman Street
New London – City firefighters extinguished a porch fire Friday, stopping the flames before they reached the inside of a two-family home at 44 Colman St.
Battalion Chief Edward Sargent said firefighters responded to the home about 3:30 p.m. to find a fire on the porch that was extending into the walls and ceiling.
The fire damaged a portion of the porch but not the home itself, Sargent said.
The cause of the fire, first reported by a passerby, is under investigation by the fire marshal.
People were home on the second floor when the fire was first reported, Sargent said, but were not injured.
