Unopposed Urban returns to 43rd House seat

Running unopposed, state Rep. Diana Urban, D-North Stonington, was re-elected to her eighth term representing the 43rd District on Tuesday.

Urban received 1,438 votes in North Stonington. Stonington gave her 5,544 votes.

“The most satisfying thing at the polls today was that people were thanking me and saying we appreciate what you do for us. It make me want to go back up there and work harder,” she said Tuesday night.

During her last term, Urban gained statewide recognition for being the lone member of the General Assembly who was pressing the state Department of Economic and Community Development to make Amistad America account for how it has spent $8 million in state funding. Urban’s work led to a state audit of the organization and a stoppage of state funding and put pressure on the organization to pay off its debts.

Urban, chairwoman of the legislature’s Children’s Committee, has seen many of her bills concerning children signed into law over the past two years. She has also pledged to continue her effort to implement results-based budgeting throughout state government.
