Wednesday's Game 

Montville at Windham, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Montville (5-4, 2-3 ECC Small); Windham (7-2, 4-1)

Last week: Montville defeated Waterford 41-21; Windham was idle

Outlook: Montville sent its seniors off the home field for the last time last week with a rousing second half and a win over rival Waterford. Austin Glidden led a second-half ground game that helped the Indians dominate, while Glidden and Cody Calash killed Waterford drives with interceptions. Montville can finish 6-4 with a win, although the Indians normally have trouble with Windham’s Wing-T offense. 

Thursday’s games 

Waterford at East Lyme, 10 a.m.

Records: Waterford (3-6); East Lyme (2-7)

Last week: Waterford lost to Montville 41-21; East Lyme was idle

Outlook: Waterford played one of its best halves of the year last week at Montville, taking a 7-point lead to halftime. After that? Not so good. Montville ran over Waterford’s defense, scoring 35 unanswered points. Do the Lancers have enough in the tank, following a difficult loss on a short week against the rested Vikings? Can East Lyme’s defense stop senior Chase Speller and the Jake Mangual-to-Justin Keating combination that worked last week? 

New London at NFA, 10 a.m.

Records: New London (2-7, ECC Large); NFA (5-4, 1-3 ECC Large)

Last week: Both teams were idle

Outlook: NFA coach Jemal Davis challenged his team after a loss to Bacon Academy three weeks ago, asking if his players had the gumption to finish the season strong. This is the first time NFA hasn’t gone to Thanksgiving Day out of the playoff race in several years. The Wildcats can still earn a winning season with a victory here. This is the oldest overall high school football rivalry in the country. 

Fitch at Ledyard, 10 a.m.

Records: Fitch (5-4, 4-1 ECC Large); Ledyard (8-1, 3-1)

Last week: Both teams were idle

Outlook: Forget about playing for the Colonel Ledyard Sword. Ledyard is playing for something bigger: avoiding a potential bus ride in the state playoff quarterfinals next week. Ledyard, which has won six straight, would secure a playoff home game with a victory, perhaps even earning the opportunity to play host to Bacon Academy and avenge its only loss. Fitch could spoil all that. The Falcons enter with the better record in the ECC Large Division and have some weapons in receiver Luke Letellier and end Donte Paul. 

Westerly at Stonington, 10 a.m.

Records: Westerly (2-9); Stonington (2-7)

Last week: Both teams were idle

Outlook: It has been a disappointing season within the programs, each used to significantly more success. Westerly has scored but 109 points all season. Stonington can at least end the season happily by winning on its home field. While NFA-New London is the nation’s oldest overall rivalry, Stonington-Westerly is the nation’s longest Thanksgiving Day rivalry.
