Stars for our Troops presentation before Thames River Detachment meeting
Montville — On Flag Day, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10060, 91 Raymond Hill Road, the monthly business meeting of the Thames River Detachment 1334 of the Marine Corps League will be held.
Prior to the official business part of the meeting, Debbie Newsome, owner of That's Sew Debbie! in Groton, will be the guest speaker, representing Stars for our Troops.
For many years, Newsome and her fellow Stars for our Troops volunteers have been cutting stars off retired American flags, placing them in small plastic bags, and presenting them to thousands of our armed forces members, returning from deployments, and to veterans in honor of their service to our nation, and to show that they have not been forgotten.
Debbie's appearance on Flag Day should be especially meaningful to all area veterans, and the members of the New London County Marine Corps League are extending the invitation to all area veterans to come to hear her speak, and to receive a star from her as thanks for their service.
