Swiss family traveling the globe to increase climate change awareness to appear at Mystic Aquarium

Mystic -- A Swiss family that is traversing the seven seas and summiting the highest peaks on each of the seven continents in an effort to bring awareness to climate change will appear at Mystic Aquarium next week.

The Schwörer family, which is in the midst of the TOPtoTOP Global Climate Expedition, will appear on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at a 4 p.m. press conference and then again at a dinner and Conservation in Action event at 6:30 p.m.

Before that on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the family will appear at several public events at the aquarium. More details are at mysticaquarium.org.

The family is speaking following their recent voyage aboard a 50-foot-long sailboat through the Arctic’s Northwest Passage.

Over the past 16 years, Dario and Sabine Schwörer and their children have traveled more than 125,000 miles by sailing, biking and climbing and cleaned up 50 tons of garbage. The voyage is not yet complete.

In announcing the family’s appearance, the aquarium said they have “witnessed examples of climate change in every climate zone and its effect on communities.”

“At the core of their expedition, is education. Meeting with students internationally, they help present examples from around the world of counteracting global climate change by living an environmentally sustainable manner,” stated the aquarium.
