Make a Difference: Stonington Human Services
Who: Tony, wife and three children
Agency: Stonington Human Services
Their situation: Tony is a young, married father of three who has been battling stage 4 cancer. His battle will continue with chemotherapy through December and January, with major surgery thereafter.
Tony has been a full-time worker with an income that has allowed his wife to stay home with their youngest child. Unfortunately, he has now found himself at the end of short-term disability insurance with no long-term disability plan in place. Although he has applied for Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits, there has been no indication of when or if he will start receiving benefits. The family is struggling to maintain housing and put food on the table during this ordeal.
How to help: Tony and his wife have been traveling to and from Yale-New Haven Hospital on a regular basis for chemo and doctors’ appointments. Gas cards, food cards, and other gift cards would certainly help the family meet their basic needs. Monetary donations also will help this family with rent.
To donate: Contact Stonington Human Services, 166 S. Broad St., Pawcatuck, CT 06379; phone: (860) 535-5015.
