Muckdogs have a lucky seventh to topple Tigers

Norwich — The Batavia Muckdogs scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning on five walks and a two-run single by Bubba Hollins, beating the Connecticut Tigers 5-4 in a New York-Penn League game before 1,192 fans at Dodd Stadium.

The Tigers (24-24) led 3-1, getting two runs in the second on an RBI single by Joey Morgan and a sacrifice fly by Cole Peterson. They added one in the sixth on a triple by Reynaldo Rivera and a sacrifice fly by Randel Alcantara.

To start the seventh, however, Connecticut reliever Jose Vasquez, after getting Marcos Rivera to fly out for the first out, walked the bases loaded, yielding to reliever Colyn O'Connell. O'Connell struck out Thomas Jones for the second out, but followed by walking Terry Bennett and Lazaro Alonso to force in runs. Hollins then came through with a base hit to make it 5-3 in Batavia's favor.

The Tigers scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Colby Bortles.

Rivera had two hits for Connecticut, which plays Batavia again at 4:05 p.m. today at Dodd Stadium. O'Connell took the loss.

Hollins had two hits for Batavia (18-32).
