Old Lyme — A town man is facing several charges after he allegedly used a truck to damage a home’s lawn because he doesn't like “the East Lyme cop that lives there.”

According to an arrest warrant written by state Trooper Ferenc Bozso, troopers on June 18 met with Terry Saffioti, the “East Lyme cop” in question. Saffioti is a sergeant with the East Lyme force.

Saffioti told police that a couple hours earlier, as he was standing in the living room of his house, he watched a red Dodge pickup back into his driveway and partially onto his lawn. Saffioti told police the driver then accelerated and pulled away at high speed, spinning the truck’s wheels in the grass.

Police later determined the driver’s actions caused about 10 feet of damage to the lawn that would cost about $150 to repair.

According to the affidavit, Saffioti followed the red pickup’s path and found it in the driveway of 127 Rogers Lake Trail. Saffioti told police he knocked on the door of the home and confronted the man who answered. That man allegedly told Saffioti he damaged the lawn because he hates “the Marine and the East Lyme cop” who lives at the home.

When Trooper Bozso showed up to the residence, the man shut the door and refused to come outside to talk, the affidavit states. Through the glass of the front door, the man allegedly told Bozso he had driven the truck, which belongs to his father.

According to the affidavit, the man told Bozso he damaged the lawn because he “knows people who don’t like the Marine that lives there.”

Bozso said in the affidavit that he identified the man as 54-year-old Scott Hall when Hall pushed his Connecticut identification card up against the glass of the still-closed door.

Hall does not have a driver’s license, according to the affidavit.

Police obtained a warrant for Hall’s arrest and arrested him at his residence on Sept. 6.

Hall, released on a $4,500 bond, was charged with unsafe movement of a standing vehicle, driving without a license, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct.

He is due in New London Superior Court  on Sept. 20.
