Garden at Waterford Beach Park dedicated to former Recreation and Parks employee and gardener

A garden at Waterford Beach Park was dedicated Oct. 10 to the memory of Grace Loeser, longtime Recreation & Parks employee.

On Oct. 10, the family of Grace Loeser and staff at the Waterford Recreation and Parks Department dedicated a garden at Waterford Beach park to Loeser, the first secretary of the town’s Recreation & Parks Department.

Loeser’s daughter, Jane Loeser Clukay, and Recreation and Parks staff installed soil and plantings in a small triangle that Loeser originally established in 1958 as a member of the Rake and Trowel Garden Club.

Loeser died on Oct. 10, 2015, at the age of 94, and her husband, Harrison Loeser, recreated the garden in her memory to acknowledge her contributions to the town.

The garden is planted with low-maintenance, sustainable plants. Several members of Loeser’s family, including Harrison Loeser and Jane Loeser Clukay, along with Recreation and Parks Director Brian Flaherty, attended the Oct. 10 dedication event.
