Pro wrestling returns to Groton on Saturday

You either get pro wrestling or you don't.

Me? Well, I was the drunk fan who once threw a beer at the maleficent Pak Song Nam (The Korean Assassin) at the Sportatorium in Dallas.

Me? I'm the sad guy who attended the graveside service for David Von Erich — yes, of the iconic Von Erich family of grapplers — after he died of a mysterious ailment shortly after a bout in Japan.

Me? Yep, I was happy to volunteer our band's already-set-up stage gear so The Honky Tonk Man could do an MTV-style music video in the early '80s. Even had a drink with his Honky Tonk-ness after the shoot (and would you believe he ordered a White Russian?! It's true!).

This is all why I'm excited to tell you that pro wrestling returns Saturday to Grasso Tech High School in Groton. Presented by Constitution State Wrestling, the card boasts a main event bout pitting WWE headliner Adam Rose against Ring of Honor star "Brutal" Bob Evans. Also going to war will be The Canadian Superstars vs. The Heavy Hitters; Luscious Latasha vs. Davienne; Wild Man Kongo and the Mind Eraser vs. 2Buff and Brian Milonas; Nick Westgate vs. "All Good" Anthony Greene; and Triplelicious vs. Jason Blade.

There's also a season-of-giving element to the event. Fans will receive $2 off the price of admission with the donation of a canned good, which will benefit the Groton Food Pantry.

Constitution State Wrestling, 7 p.m. Saturday, Grasso Tech Gymnasium, 189 Fort Hill Road, Groton; $1 ringside, $10 general admission, $2 off with donation of canned food item to benefit Groton Food Pantry;
