    Disc Tip: Charlotte Gainsbourg's "Rest"

France’s little darling Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of the legendary 1960s French singer Serge Gainsbourg, recently released her fifth album, “Rest.” And, in typical French fashion, the album is pretty sensuous. She stays true to her breathy, flat singing style, something that has come to define her since the age of 12, when she performed “Lemon Incest” or “Incest de Citron” with her father — the highly questionable synth pop father-daughter love song. Her voice — which on this album feels similar to that single — is always fascinating to me. And even though the album is at times melancholic, it is also romantic and rebellious — a window into the complexities of Gainsbourg.
