John Oliver will do four shows at Foxwoods

First, it looked as if John Oliver was going to do one show in Foxwoods on Dec. 29. Then, they added another show that night. And then two more on Dec. 30.

Why? Well, no doubt because the earlier shows were selling out.

If that doesn’t speak to the popularity of the host of “Last Week Tonight,” I don’t know what does.

I’m very curious to see what Oliver talks about at his concerts this weekend, since, when I saw him at Foxwoods in January 2015, he eschewed the politics and current events that are his focus on “Last Week Tonight.” Instead, he joked about things like the confounding Foxwoods layout and an errant pigeon at Newark Airport. Even without his usual ripped-from-the-headlines touchstones, Oliver's show was one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. Absolutely hilarious.

Did I buy tickets to one of his gigs this time around? You bet I did.

    John Oliver, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and 7 and 10 p.m. Saturday, Foxwoods’ Grand Theater; $74, $89, 1-800-200-2882.
