State police identify son as person of interest in fatal Griswold fire

Police on Thursday identified Matthew Lindquist, the son of the couple discovered dead inside their burned Griswold house last week, as a “person of interest” in an ongoing investigation.

Janet Lindquist, 61, and Kenneth Lindquist, 56, a married couple who owned the house at 70 Kenwood Estates that burned on the morning of Dec. 20, were identified on Wednesday as the people found dead inside the home.

Matthew Lindquist, who reportedly lived at the home, was not accounted for at the time of the fire and has been missing ever since. Police distributed photos of him on Thursday but did not explain why he was a person of interest.

Police said the Griswold fire is somehow linked to a car fire at 40 Nanel Drive in Glastonbury that occurred on the same morning as the Griswold fire but provided no details about the connection. The Hartford Courant has reported the burned car belonged to the deceased couple. No victims were discovered as a result of the car fire but Glastonbury police had called in state police detectives to assist in the investigation.

Connecticut State Police detectives from the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and Eastern District Major Crime Squad are conducting the investigation. A state police spokesman provided no information about the cause of the couple’s death and said further information would be released when it becomes available.

Anyone who thinks they may have information about the case or knows the whereabouts of Matthew Lindquist is asked to contact Detective Cuoco at (860) 896-3235, Eastern District Major Crime at (860) 896-3230, Troop C in Tolland at (860) 896-3200 or text TIP711 with any information to 274637. All calls and texts may remain anonymous.
