New London school to stay closed this week to fix heating system
New London – Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School will be closed the entire week because of the water damage the school sustained from burst pipes.
The school district is hosting a public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria to discuss the condition of the school, the causes of the damage and the steps being taken to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
A letter to Nathan Hale staff and families from interim Superintendent Stephen Tracy was distributed on Tuesday that indicates the damage was the result of breaks in the water system serving the school’s heating system. Several classrooms, hallways and other spaces were affected, the letter states.
Contractors are expected to repair the heating system and remove the damaged furniture, carpets and books while the school is closed. The school first announced news of the damage on Friday.
