Ledyard — Police arrested a Rhode Island woman early Monday morning who they say got into a fight with her boyfriend, stole his vehicle and then crashed it.

Kelly A. Conti, 41, of West Warwick, R.I., was charged with breach of peace, third-degree larceny, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.

According to police, officers were alerted when they found Conti’s boyfriend walking along state Route 214, not dressed for the weather. After speaking to the man, police learned he and his girlfriend had gotten into a physical fight. Conti subsequently left her boyfriend on the side of the road and drove off in his car, according to police.

Police didn’t locate Conti at the residence where they believed she would be but instead found her a couple houses away after she had caused a “minor one-car” crash, police said. Conti allegedly was intoxicated when police located her.

Conti was due to appear in New London Superior Court Tuesday.
