    Local roundup: Santiago leads Mitchell to victory

    New London — Domenico Santiago scored 34 points and had 13 rebounds as Mitchell College beat Wheelock 101-90 in a New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday.

    Hasani Williams had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Alan Morgan had 18 points and seven assists and Brayvon Young and Steffen Brunson scored 10 points each for Mitchell (12-10, 8-3).

    Women's basketball

    • Avery Point beat Sullivan County Community College 100-80 in a nonleague game on Tuesday night. Tatyana LaFrance Boyce of Pawcatuck had 27 points and nine rebounds and Waterford's Mia Brennan had 25 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Pointers (18-5), who are ranked No. 8 in NJCAA Division III. Taleeha Green had 20 points and nine rebounds and Meagan Bianchi had 12 points and 11 assists for Avery Point.

    H.S. boys' basketball

    • Bret Wood had 11 points and 12 rebounds as NFA beat Ledyard 70-44 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game on Tuesday night. Nicholas Hay had 14 points and Brendan Maher scored 11 for NFA (11-5, 3-2). Trevor Hutchins and Jaiden Bickham scored nine each for Ledyard (8-7, 2-4).

    Pawcatuck Little League registration

    • Sunday, Feb. 11 at Pawcatuck Middle School cafeteria from noon-3 p.m. For boys ages 4-12 and girls ages 4-15. Second signup session is Sunday, March 4, same time and place. Online registration is preferred and available at http://www.eteamz.com/pawcatucklittleleague. Forms can be found under forms & handouts. Registrations will also be taken for Babe Ruth baseball, for boys ages 13-15 as of May 1. Cost is $70 for t-ball, $150 for Babe Ruth, and $100 for all other divisions, with a family maximum of $200 (Babe Ruth not eligible). First-time registrants must bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate.
