Old Lyme church to host 'Honest Conversations with Muslim Neighbors' event

Old Lyme — The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, at 2 Ferry Road, announced it would hold “Honest Conversations with Muslim Neighbors,” a discussion among area residents at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the Sheffield Auditorium.

The Connecticut Council for Interreligious Understanding, the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut and the Hartford Seminary, are arranging the event, which is free and open to the public.

"During the event, local residents will hear from — and can ask questions of — other Connecticut residents who are Muslims, and who are articulate about their faith and eager to deepen community perceptions and understanding of their faith," the event notice states. "FCCOL and the event organizers believe that together, through conversation, we can promote a more peaceful world for everyone."

"FCCOL is a community of people of faith who care about the world we live in, whether it’s right outside our door or half a world away," the notice continues. "Our church strives to be a place of grace, welcoming everyone, regardless of theological expression. Our church Constitution states that “each member shall have the undisturbed right to follow the word of God according to the dictates of his or her own conscience, under the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit.”"
