The only reason "Little Stevie Winwood" isn't the hands-down greatest soul singer ever called "Little Stevie" is because he had the misfortune of living on the same planet at the same time with "Little Stevie Wonder."

This does not take anything away from Winwood. He was (with the Spencer Davis Group) and still is a tremendous soul singer. At 69, though, he's also had a long rock career — Traffic and Blind Faith — and many successes as a fine MOR pop songwriter/vocalist.

Winwood plays the Grand Theater in Foxwoods on Saturday as part of his "Greatest Hits Live" world tour. The Day saw him in that same venue nine years ago when Winwood was on the road behind "Nine Lives" — which happens to be his last studio recording. No matter, though. This is, as advertised, a "hits" revue.

Expect, then, a fine recitation of crowd favorites from all facets of Winwood's history. This includes a version of Buddy Miles' signature "Them Changes," which Winwood sang on Eric Clapton's "Live from Madison Square Garden" album. Interesting choice, to be sure — but at at the expense of overlooked Traffic gems like "Many a Mile to Freedom" or "Rainmaker"?
