Old Lyme — A crash that happened around 7:45 a.m. on Interstate 95 south made travel conditions even more difficult on a day already affected by heavy rain.

State Department of Transportation officials said in an alert that the crash happened near Exit 70 and involved one vehicle.

At its peak, traffic was backed up for more than 2½ miles. Crews cleared the crash about 8:15 a.m., but cars still were moving slowly through the area.
