H.S. softball roundup: Lennon pitches, hits Stonington to win

Woodstock — Trinity Lennon was 2-for-3 with a double and a fourth-inning home run that served as the 100th hit of her career Wednesday, as the Stonington High School softball team defeated Woodstock Academy 8-0 to maintain a tie with Waterford for first place in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II race.

Lennon, who has been the Bears' starting pitcher since her freshman season, also struck out seven to earn the victory.

"She's just so calm. She takes it seriously," Stonington coach Ann-Marie Houle said of Lennon. "She's got the best pitcher's mindset. She knows, 'My job is to let them put the ball in play and let the defense make the outs.'

"She's never been the kid to say, 'jump on my back; I'm going to carry you.' But she's a workhorse. I'm happy for a kid like Trinity who has given so much for the program."

Abby Flakus was 2-for-3 for two runs and an RBI and Maggie Constantine 3-for-4 with two RBI for Stonington (12-4, 7-2).
