    H.S. baseball roundup: Whalers turn the tables on NFA

    New London — Elijah Martinez was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as New London High School picked up its first divisional win with a 6-4 victory over Norwich Free Academy in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball game Thursday night.

    Robert Parra was the winning pitcher and tripled and drove in a pair of runs and Martinez also drove in two runs for New London (7-8, 1-6), which lost to NFA 9-0 on Wednesday.

    Vinny Gualtieri and Jonathan Synott had two hits each for NFA (5-11, 3-4) and Gualtieri doubled twice.

    In other games:

    • Doug DelaCruz had three hits, three runs scored and was on base five times as Montville defeated Bacon Academy 12-3 in ECC Division II. Griffin Pontbriant pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts for the Indians (13-3, 7-2), while Nick Calash, Rob DelaCruz and Colby Miner had two hits apiece.

    • Bowen Baker went six innings and allowed two hits with 11 strikeouts as Wheeler blanked Griswold 4-0 in ECC Division III. Calvin Vrabel and Chris Haines had a hit and an RBI apiece for Wheeler (4-11, 2-8).

    • Killingly scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win over No. 7 Waterford in an ECC Division II game. Sonny Pezzello was 4-for-4 with a homer, double, four RBI and two  runs scored for Waterford (11-4, 5-4).

    • South Windsor scored three times in the fifth inning and edged East Lyme 6-4. Chris Malcom had an RBI for the Vikings (9-6). South Windsor is 14-1.

    • Tyler Nelli pitched a five-hitter as Fitch won its fifth straight, beating Xavier 2-1 on Wednesday night. Nelli struck out eight with two walks before needing last-out help from Manish Rane-Castrodad, who got a strikeout to end the game. Nelli also had had two hits and drove in a run, Tyler Cady scored a run and drove in a run and Wes Jacey scored for Fitch (11-5).
