Crews closed two lanes of the southbound Gold Star Memorial Bridge Monday morning because of a multiple-vehicle crash, the state Department of Transportation said, leading to congestion on Interstate 95 and side routes.

From about 7:30 to 8:15 a.m., only one lane of I-95 south was open between exits 86 and 84. Because of ongoing construction, the bridge has only three operational lanes.

Crews cleared the wreck at 8:15 a.m., but at 8:45 a.m., traffic on I-95 still was backed up to Exit 88 in Groton. Traffic also was moving slowly on parts of state routes 117, 184 and 12.
