    Local roundup: UConn basketball learns its opponents for 2K Classic

    Storrs — The UConn men's basketball team will open the 2018 2K Classic with two home games before heading to New York to face former Big East rival Syracuse at Madison Square Garden.

    The Huskies will host Morehead State on Nov. 8 and then take on University of Missouri at Kansas City on Nov. 11. The location of the games, which will be at either Gampel Pavilion in Storrs or the XL Center in Hartford, will be announced at a later date.

    As previously reported, UConn will face Syracuse in a semifinal doubleheader on Nov. 15 at MSG, with Oregon and Iowa playing in the other game. Winners and losers will meet in the championship and consolation on Nov. 16.

    It will be the 95th meeting between UConn and Syracuse.

    The 24th annual 2K Classic will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

    • The Ocean State Waves scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-7 wi over the Mystic Schooners in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Fitch High School. Chris Sullivan (Hartford) hit a pair of solo homers for Mystic (1-5) while Sebastiano Santorelli (Seton Hall) hit a three-run homer in the ninth and drove in four runs. Ocean State is 2-3.

    College lacrosse

    • Connecticut College senior face-off specialist Ben Parens has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America Team. He is one of 76 student-athletes from NCAA Division III institutions being recognized.

    Parens earned national accolades for his play on the field the past three seasons from the USILA, marking the first time a Camel has achieved the feat since Tim Boyd was a USILA All-America Honorable Mention selection in 1999, 2000 and 2001. This past spring, he ranked second in the NESCAC in faceoff wins (205) and third in ground balls (120) to help the program register its highest overall and conference win totals since 2013.
