Hoot for Hunger benefit concert Friday at Captain Scott's

Do lobsters make noise? I only ask because Friday's Hoot for Hunger concert takes place in New London at Captain Scott's Lobster Dock, and apparently lobsters do make a sort of crustacean-y squeak.

But the concert is yet called a "Hoot" — as in the call of an owl. I suppose the snarky amongst us might suggest the Hoot for Hunger should either take place at an owl restaurant or we should change the name of the event to the Crustacean-Squeak for Hunger.

What's important, though, is that proceeds from this biannual event go to the New London Community Meal Center. And, as always, a fine array of local musicians are donating their time and talents to help out. Appearing are Hugh and Dana (6:10 p.m.), Sherwood (6:20 p.m.), Sue Frankewicz (6:30 p.m.), Baird Welch Collins (6:40 p.m.), Sue Mead (6:50 p.m.), Chris Bousquet (7 p.m.), Sophie Spaner (7:10 p.m.), Dennis Walley and Mike Scott (7:20 p.m.), Nightingale Fiddlers (7:30 p.m.), Golden Ratio (7:40 p.m.) Tim Lambert and Steve Fagin (7:50 p.m.), Clayton Allen (8 p.m.), and the Grand Finale (8:15 p.m.).

Hoot for Hunger, 6 p.m. Friday, Captain Scott's Lobster Dock, 80 Hamilton St., New London; free, donations suggested; (860) 439-1741.
