    UConn's Diarra undergoes knee surgery

Storrs — UConn redshirt sophomore forward Mamadou Diarra underwent surgery Monday morning to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The surgery was performed at UConn Health in Farmington.

Diarra’s injury occurred during basketball workouts last week. An MRI revealed the torn meniscus and after consultation with the UConn medical staff and Diarra’s family, surgery was scheduled.

“The surgery went very well and there were no surprises,” said James Doran, UConn’s athletic trainer. “Mamadou will begin rehab immediately and we would expect him to make a full recovery.”

Diarra’s recovery time is expected to be between four and six months, depending on how the knee responds to rehab protocol.

Diarra played in 31 games for the Huskies last season, averaging 2.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and shooting 54.8 percent from the field.
