New London — The Coast Guard Academy will add five new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 11 at the annual Hall of Fame banquet held in the Otto Graham Hall of Athletic Excellence in Billard Hall as part of Homecoming Weekend.

The Class of 2011 has a pair of honorees in Carl Luxhoj (track and field) and Amanda (Frederick) Mountour (softball). Also honored will be swimmer Richard Howes ('95), men's basketball player Jeff Prebeck ('08) and the 1963 football team will become the first-ever team inducted.

Luxhoj was a three time All-American, as he placed third in the long jump in 2009, eighth in the triple jump in 2009 and fifth in the triple jump in 2011. He earned All-New England honors 17 times (10 indoor and seven outdoor) and was a five-time New England runner up.

The 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Athlete of the Year, Luxhoj was a three-time NEWMAC champion and graduated with four school records.

Montour, a third team All-America catcher in 2010, led the team to three straight NEWMAC regular season championships and a pair of tournament titles as well as three straight NCAA tournament berths and two NCAA regional finals. She was a four-time first team All-NEWMAC selection, a three-time All-Region selection, the 2008 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, the 2010 and 2011 NEWMAC Player of the Year and the 2010 ECAC Player of the Year.

Known affectionately as "Freddy," Montour rewrote the Coast Guard softball record book. She is the Bears career leader in hits (224), doubles (52), extra-base hits (89), RBI (173), runs scored (149), total bases (377), at-bats (544), sacrifice flies (12), slugging percentage (.693), putouts (1,303) and total chances (1,448). She is second all-time with 10 triples, 27 homers, a .988 fielding percentage and her .412 career average is third best at the academy. 

Howes, was a two-time All-American and earned honorable mention All-America honors three times during his junior and senior seasons. In 1995, he placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke and was fifth in the 400 medley relay. He was also the New England runner-up in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke in 1995.

The team captain in 1995, Howes led the Bears to a record of 50-8, including an unbeaten season in 1995. He graduated with school records in 200 and 400 medley relay as well as the 200 breaststroke.

Prebeck, who was a captain on the men's basketball team that made the only Elite 8 appearance in program history and a school record 24 wins during the 2007-08 season, is second all-time at the academy with 1,614 points and 1,114 rebounds. He is just one of just two players in Coast Guard history to score 1,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds.

He was the 2005 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and holds the single-season record with 344 rebounds, as he led the nation with 12.3 rebounds per game during his junior season and was a three-time all-conference selection.

Prebeck and the Bears won back-to-back NEWMAC tournament championships, earning NCAA tournament berths in 2007 and 2008. He holds the Coast Guard career record with 109 games played and is second with both field goals made (598) and free throws made (393) as he averaged a double-double in his career with 14.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

The 1963 football team is the only unbeaten and untied team during the regular season (8-0) in program history. The team, led by head coach Otto Graham, played in the Tangerine Bowl. The Bears finished the season 8-1, the third best record in the 94-year history of Coast Guard Academy football.

"This year we will honor yet another outstanding class to the Hall of Fame. With each and every passing year, I continue to be amazed with the extremely high caliber of our inductees," said Tim Fitzpatrick, director of athletics. "After stellar performances as cadet-athletes, they all have gone on to distinguished careers first in the Coast Guard and in some cases as professionals in the business world. This class displays those same attributes."
