Connecticut Sea Grant to host plein air painters and habitat walk for public
As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, the Connecticut Sea Grant will be hosting a morning community event at UConn’s Avery Point Campus Sunday that will include plein air painting, as well as a marine habitat walk.
Beginning at 9 a.m., Judy Preston, Sea Grant’s Long Island Sound outreach coordinator, will lead a 30- to 45-minute walk for members of the public and those interested in plein air painting. She will discuss the various marine habitats visible from Avery Point. The walk is meant to educate members of the public and of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society, who will also be present at the event, about the surrounding marine environment.
After the walk, a paint-out, from 9 a.m. to noon, will take place on the Avery Point campus. The walk will begin at the Marine Sciences Building entrance, next to the Branford House. The event is free and open to the public, though those interested in painting are encouraged to bring their own materials.
