    Car crashes into Norwich building

Norwich — The driver of a sports car accidentally rammed the side of a downtown Norwich building Monday, breaking through several layers of the brick and damaging a basement level side doorway.

The incident occurred at 1:13 p.m. on a steep side street, known as Railroad Place, adjacent to CLA Engineers at 317 Main St. The accident prompted a response by police officers, firefighters and the building official.

Police said there are no charges being levied against the driver of the Mitsubishi 3000 GT. The driver's name was not immediately available, and no injuries were reported.

Norwich Building Officer Jim Troeger said the damage did not warrant a condemnation. CLA, which employs its own structural engineer, has since boarded up the hole.
