H.S. soccer: Old Lyme girls beat Holy Cross in rematch of Class S final
Old Lyme — Mya Johnson scored both goals as Old Lyme defeated Holy Cross 2-0 in a non-conference girls' soccer match on Friday.
The game was a rematch of last year's Class S state championship which the Wildcats won 2-1 in overtime.
Johnson won a goal in each half for Old Lyme (5-1-3), with Kaylee Armenia assisting on one goal.
Goalie Sam Gray stopped four shots for the Wildcats to earn the shutout.
Holy Cross is 7-3.
In other games:
• Mackenzie Teper's goal with less a second remaining gave Norwich Free Academy a 1-0 victory over Bacon Academy. Teper took a ball that was sent in from the midfield and blasted a shot from 18 yards out into the net to give the Wildcats (5-3-1) the win. Goalie Allyson Knorr-Anderson made seven saves to earn the shutout.
• Waterford fell to Plainfield in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game, 3-2. Khay Hatcher scored both goals for Waterford (4-5, 1-3), Ciana Chiappone assisted on the first one and teammates Mya Rheaume and Mckenzie Gregory combined for seven saves.
• Victoria Hannaford's goal in the 59th minute broke a scoreless tie and lifted St. Bernard to a 1-0 victory over New London in an ECC Division III game. Caroline Codner assisted for the Saints (8-3, 3-2), who held an 11-3 edge in shots, while goalie Olivia Massad made one save. Desiree Johnson made five saves in goal for the Whalers (3-8, 0-5).
• Wheeler and Windham played to a scoreless overtime draw in an ECC Division IV match. Goalie Addie Hauptmann stopped five shots for the Lions (0-8-2, 0-5-1).
Boys
• Alphonso Vazquez scored four goals as Windham beat Montville 5-1 in an ECC Division III game. Tyler Velazquez scored, Julian Valdes had an assist and Keaton Sulman made six saves for Montville (7-3, 2-3).
• Drew Archer scored two goals as Lyman Memorial beat St. Bernard 4-0. Martin Arvidson and Mike Whipple combined for 14 saves for St. Bernard (5-4).
