Ledyard police seek driver who struck cruiser

Ledyard — Town police said Monday they are still looking for the male driver of a black BMW who intentionally drove his car into a police cruiser Sunday afternoon on Shewville Road near the intersection of Route 2.

An officer attempted to stop the car for speeding in the area of Route 214 and Spicer Hill Road at 5:48 p.m., according to police. The driver fled at speeds of more than 80 miles per hour on Shewville Road, then deliberately drove his car into the cruiser of a second officer. The officer suffered a minor injury, but the rear of the cruiser sustained heavy damage, according to a press release.

The BMW, which has a decal on the back, was last seen in a private driveway on Matthewson Mill Road, where the driver fled in the car after the homeowner confronted him.

Police said the driver was a male wearing a team jersey and posted photos from the incident on their Facebook page.
