Walk will explore history of Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London

New London — New London Landmarks on Saturday will host a walking tour through Cedar Grove Cemetery at 638 Broad St., led by board member and retired history teacher Don Presley.

“I love giving this tour because the people buried here lived such interesting and varied lives,” Presley said in a written statement. “It’s a wonderful way to share anecdotes about New London’s history.”

From sea captains and politicians to abolitionists and a Confederate major general, Presley will discuss the lives of about 20 people buried at the cemetery. He also will discuss the origins of the cemetery.

The tour will begin at 1 p.m. in the cemetery office at the Broad Street entrance and run until about 2:30 p.m. Parking is available inside the cemetery beside the paved path.

Tickets are $15 or $10 for members of New London Landmarks. No preregistration is required but tickets may be purchased in advance at newlondonlandmarks.org.
