Surveillance footage shows one woman suspected of stealing wallets at movie theaters

East Lyme and Stonington police are trying to identify two men and two women who allegedly helped steal wallets out of two purses at movie theaters on Sept. 16 and 18.

Police said the East Lyme victim, who was in Niantic Theater on Sept. 16, noticed a man sit behind her after the movie started and leave “a short time later.” She couldn’t describe the man.

Police didn’t say at which theater the Stonington incident occurred.

In both cases, the victims’ debit and credit cards were used at multiple locations shortly after they were stolen.

Police said one of the female suspects appears to be left-handed and has red hair, a large build and tattoos on her wrists and forearms. Police said all four are using what appears to be a blue 2004-09 Nissan Quest.

Police asked those attending theaters to keep their valuables close.

Anyone with information is asked to call East Lyme Detective Mark Comeau at (860) 739-5900 and reference case No. 18-12097-OF, or Stonington Officer Joseph McDermott at (860) 599-4411 and reference case No. 18-749-OF.
