Case continued for Montville assistant principal

Montville — The case against Tatiana Patten, the Montville High School assistant principal charged with failing to report classroom fighting, will continue into next year.

Patten, 59, was one of three Montville school administrators charged in April 2018 with failing to report classroom fighting allegedly supervised by former substitute teacher Ryan Fish. School officials promptly fired Fish but failed to alert police or the Department of Children and Families, state police said this spring.

Patten was initially scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Tuesday morning, but her attorney, Drzislav "Dado" Coric, said the case was pushed until Jan. 15.

Patten's case remains the only unresolved matter connected to the classroom fighting, which students filmed and posted on social media in the fall of 2017.

Superintendent Brian Levesque voluntarily resigned after reaching an agreement with the Board of Education in October. A judge agreed to dismiss the charge of failure to report against Levesque. Principal Jeffrey Theodoss retired in late August and the case against him was dismissed.

Patten remains on paid leave and Coric said attorneys remain in talks on her case, which has been continued multiple times.

"They're all slightly different situations," Coric said, though he noted he expected Patten's case to be resolved similarly to Levesque's and Theodoss's.

Fish faced multiple charges connected to the classroom slapboxing but successfully applied for the state's accelerated rehabilitation program. If he commits no crimes, completes 40 hours of community service and counseling over the two-year program, his record will be cleared.
