Top Stories of 2018: Siblings charged in Griswold home invasion, murders
Details of one of the deadliest crimes in a decade emerged in the spring of 2018, when state police arrested Sergio Correa and his adopted sister, Ruth, and charged them with the deaths of Matthew Lindquist, 21, and his parents, 61-year-old Janet and 56-year-old Kenneth, on Dec. 20, 2017.
According to court documents, Matthew Lindquist, desperate for drugs, hatched a plan with Sergio Correa to let him into the Lindquist home at 70 Kenwood Drive in Griswold to steal guns from a safe in the basement. Instead, state police said, Sergio and Ruth Correa fatally stabbed Lindquist, left his body in a wooded area and invaded the home.
Ruth Correa confessed to state police that she and her brother tortured Janet and Kenneth Lindquist, stole items and set the house on fire. Ruth and Sergio Correa were charged with murder with special circumstances, three counts of felony murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree arson and second-degree arson and home invasion. They remain incarcerated while their cases are pending in New London Superior Court.
