    Movie tip: "Roma"

    Movie tip

    Roma

Sometimes, I wonder. “Roma” was gifted with rapturous reviews and showered with endless award nominations, and yet it left me cold. Yes, “Roma” looks great, with its luxurious black-and-white palette and artfully curated compositions. And, yes, it makes you feel as if you are living with writer-director Alfonso Cuarón’s family when he was a child in early-1970s Mexico City. But “Roma’s” painfully deliberate pace and minimal plot make this semi-autobiographical film feel self-indulgent rather than illuminating.
