New Haven — John Marcolina of the Fitch/Stonington/Ledyard/Norwich Tech cooperative program captured the 100-yard freestyle during Monday night's CIAC Class L Championship swimming meet at Southern Connecticut State University.

Marcolina finished the race in 47.58 seconds to win the title in what was a productive night for the Fitch senior. He added a second in the 50 free earlier in the night in 21.58, just losing out to New Canaan's Michael Kotlyar (21.55), and then anchored a pair of relay teams to medals.

The 200 free relay team of Marcolina, Maxwell Cartier, Keegan Reck and Joseph Vignato placed fourth in 1:29.10 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Vignato, Reck, AJ Murko and Marcolina finished sixth in 3:21.35.

Fitch finished 10th overall in the team standings with 216 points. New Canaan won the title with 776.

In other class meets:

• Freshman Ryan Huang placed in two individual events to highlight East Lyme's eighth-place finish in the Class M Championship meet at Wesleyan University. The Vikings finished with 289.5 points while Pomperaug won the team title with 810. Huang was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (57.16 seconds) and eighth in the 100 butterfly (55.58) for the Vikings while senior Jack Zhang finished sixth in the 100 fly (54.94) and junior Robert Hahn was seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:04.98).

East Lyme also placed in all three relays with the 200 medley team of Huang, Zhang, Eric Gu and Erik Stelter finishing seventh (1:44.66), the 200 freestyle relay team of Hahn, Stelter, Anthony Wang and Noam Sokolovsky finishing eighth (1:33.70), and the 400 free relay team of Hahn, Zhang, Wang and Huang placing eighth (3:31.45).

• In the Class LL meet at SCSU, Norwich Free Academy finished 18th with 60 points (Greenwich was first with 911). Junior Jeffrey Ng had the top finish for the Wildcats, placing 13th in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.54), while the 200 medley relay team of Ng, Keith Johnson, Alex Ji and Wyatt Gordan finishing 15th (1:54.84).

College honors

• UConn's Crystal Dangerfield was named one of five finalists on Monday for the 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award, which honors the top point guard in Division I women's basketball. The junior entered Monday night's American Athletic Conference title game against Central Florida is averaging 13.7 points and 6.1 assists while holding a 3.27 assist-turnover ratio for the Huskies, ranked second in the nation. The other finalists are Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon), Destiny Slocum (Oregon State), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina) and Tiana Mangakahia (Syracuse). The winner will be announced at the Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

• Senior Jalen Adams was the only UConn men's basketball player selected to the All-AAC. He earned third team honors along with USF's David Collins and Laquincy Rideau, UCF's Tacko Fall and Tulsa's DaQuan Jeffries.

• Coast Guard Academy's Jeremy Lhotka was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week in baseball. The senior catcher hit .846 with five doubles and six RBI in the Bears' first four games. In the last three games, was 10-for-10 in three CGA wins.

College softball

• Coast Guard split two games in Florida, losing to Bridgewater State 5-1 and defeating Becker College 11-3. In the opener, sophomore Charless Kraiss had three hits and scored CGA's only run. Junior Claire Hurley, a Waterford graduate, and Audrey Bartz both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Bears (2-2) in game two that lasted just five innings. Courtney McKenna, Sharayah Simco, and Maggie Perez each had a pair of RBI while Sydney Arendt earned the win.

Women's tennis

• Skylar Morgan won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and teamed with Meredith Kenny to win 8-7 (7-2) at No. 2 doubles to highlight Connecticut College's 7-2 victory over Schreiner in Kerrville, Texas. Emily Migliorni, Hayley Zukerberg, Paige Braithwaite and Rachel Weiss also won singles matchs for the Camels (2-2) as did the No. 3 doubles team of Stephanie Simon-Allison Falvey.

Men's tennis

• Will Cannon and Guillermo Rincon each won twice as Connecticut College beat Schreiner 8-1 in Kerrville, Texas. SangJin Song, Henry DeCoster, Walter Komishane, Sean Jenkins, Cannon and Rincon all won singles matches for the Camels (1-1) and Cannon and Rincon won at No. 1 doubles.
