Stonington to hold event to discuss tools to encourage community investment

Stonington -- The Economic Development Commission will host a community conversation on April 30 to discuss the future of Stonington and the use of new tools to encourage responsible investment.

The forum will begin at 6 p.m. at Saltwater Farm Vineyard on Elm Street.

In a release announcing the event, the town stated that as part of the implementation of the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, the Economic Development Commission, with assistance from the town’s Department of Planning, has been exploring ideas to increase the town’s grand list.

“This includes ways to encourage and attract responsible private investment, and identifying sources of capital to fund public projects essential to the economic vitality of our community,” stated the release.

At the forum, Courtney Hendricson from the Connecticut Economic Resource Center will offer an economic overview of the region, economic development opportunities, and economic outlook.

Director of Planning Jason Vincent will then host a community conversation about the development of a Targeted Community Investment strategy to assist areas of town which have public infrastructure needs and private investment opportunities.

“Alignment of these needs and opportunities, perhaps through a Targeted Community Investment could be a means to provide the necessary framework and tools to encourage responsible development within the community,” stated the release.
