    H.S. tennis: Crouse records 500th career win as Stonington girls' coach

    Waterford — The Stonington High School girls' tennis team remained unbeaten Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over Waterford, earning coach George Crouse his 500th career victory in the sport, as well.

    Crouse earned his 800th career win overall, in boys' and girls' tennis combined, earlier this season. Crouse, in his 32nd season as girls' coach, is 500-104.

    Maddie Hamm and Ainsley Johnstone won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for Stonington (5-0) and the Bears swept doubles play with the teams of Cassie Onorato-Amelia Caron, Chloe Morehouse-Katie Johnstone and Sydney Motherway-Erin Motherway.

    Waterford (4-3) got singles wins from Alli Silva at No. 3 and Mickey Green at No. 4.

    In other matches:

    • Abby Dirico, Lilia Burdo, Marisa Howard and Bianca Planeta swept the singles matches to lift Ledyard past New London 5-2 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II match. Jessica Juoni and Jill Rezendes won their No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreaker for the Colonels (3-2, 2-1). The doubles teams of Emily Fielding-Mary Lembree and Niomi Brown-Maliyah Jones picked up wins for New London (2-5, 1-4).

    • Mary Kathryn Taylor, Shauna Kim, Becca Paggioli and Yurina Shirai won singles matches for East Lyme in a 7-0 shutout of St. Bernard. The Vikings (2-3) got doubles wins from the teams of Emily Zhu-Liz Beaulieu, Grace Foltz-Caroline French and Sophie Arustei-Alissa Li. St. Bernard is 0-4.

    • Norwich Free Academy's Anna Slopak won at No. 1 singles, beating Rachel Liang 7-5, 6-1, and the Wildcats topped Montville 6-1 in ECC Division IV. Hannah Crary and Kaitlin Cavanaugh added singles victories for NFA (3-3, 3-0) and the Wildcats swept doubles play behind the teams of Madison Manski-Ashlyn Chmelecki, Emily Eggler-Natalie Dionne and Shayla Roche-Laura Danieluk. Angelina Sun won at No. 2 singles for Montville (3-5, 2-1).

    • Brynn McGlinchey won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Coginchaug's Melissa Fowler and Old Lyme went on to a 7-0 victory in the Shoreline Conference matchup. Emma Bass, Olivia Schaedler and Chandler Munson also won singles matches for Old Lyme. Kellie Sablone-Emily O'Brien, Emma Danes-Lauren Wallace and Isabel Dean-Frazier-Melissa Mauro picked up doubles victories.

    Boys

    • Stonington's Jake Stiger topped Jack Lacey 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and the Bears blanked NFA 7-0. Stonington is 7-0. William Michelson, Sean Bessette and Nathan Gonzalez also won singles matches in straight sets and Graham Johnstone-Kyle Remmert and Quinn Hamilton-Filip Aubrecht took doubles matches for the Bears, who won third doubles by forfeit. NFA is 0-3-1.

    • CJ Jaskiewicz won his No. 1 singles match in straight sets and Montville went on to sweep Killingly 7-0 in an ECC Division III match. Ryan Gallagher, Jason Chen and David Baukus also claimed singles wins and the doubles teams of Jae Seung Kim-Cheuk Hei Chan, Ethan Thomas-Tony Lin and Aaron Nonolaya-AJ Hintz picked up points for the Indians (4-2, 2-0).

    • St. Bernard picked up its first win of the season, beating Bacon Academy 4-2. Kyle Keefe, Gage Goodwin and Matt Graul won singles matches and Dillon McCaffrey and Haseeb Quershi won at No. 2 doubles for the Saints (1-4).

    • Lyman Memorial swept the three doubles matches to edge Ledyard 4-3 in an ECC Division III match. The Colonels (1-3, 1-1), picked up singles wins from Sammy Curcuro, Joey Burton and Matt Bourguignon, who won in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
