    H.S. roundup: Ledyard's Walters pitches second no-hitter of the season

    Killingly — Cade Walters pitched his second no-hitter of the season, striking out 14 and walking one to lift the sixth-ranked Ledyard High School baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Killingly in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game Tuesday.

    A senior for the Colonels, Walters' other no-hitter was also a 1-0 game, coming April 12 against Norwich Free Academy.

    Weston Bruce scored the only run in the top of the seventh inning for Ledyard (11-2, 5-0). He also scored the lone run against NFA.

    In other games:

    • Fitch scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning and held on to defeat East Lyme 4-3 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. The Falcons (6-4, 2-2) took a 3-2 lead on Cam McGugan's RBI double before Manish Rane-Castrodad reached on a fielder's choice to give Fitch an insurance run. McGugan had a pair of doubles and Rane-Castrodad drove in two runs while starting pitcher Ramiro Zavala did not allow an earned run over 7.2 innings. Owen Robbins had two hits and two RBI for East Lyme (6-7, 2-2) while Luke Leonard and Chris Malcom each went 2-for-5.

    Boys' track

    • Adam Crawford won the 110 hurdles (17.2), the 300 hurdles (42.2) and the javelin (151-1) and Ledyard swept all three relays to remain unbeaten with an 89-61 victory over Fitch. Crawford also ran a leg of the Colonels' winning 4x400 relay. James Smith won the 100, 200 and was part of the 4x100 relay for Ledyard (3-0). Tom Joyner won the shot put and discus and Ethan Alves won the pole vault and tied for first in the high jump for Fitch (2-2).

    Girls' track

    • Julia Adrian won the 1,600 (6:12.7), 3,200 (13:38.9) and Janaya Burley the 100 hurdles (17.4) and the 400 (1:04.8) in Fitch's narrow 77-72 victory over Ledyard. Mikayla Charles-Haley (high jump), Ciara Brunache (triple jump) and Sydney Comstock (pole vault) also won individual events for the Falcons (3-1). Nadia Helme (100, 200, long jump) won three events for Ledyard (2-1).

    • Brigid Kunka won the 1,600 (5:58), the 3,200 (13:08) and ran a leg on the first-place 4x800 relay team in St. Bernard's 78-70 loss to Lyman Memorial in an ECC Division IV meet. Kunka was joined in the relay by Sophia Duhig, Adrianna Graul and Serena Britner. Aaliya Masters added wins in the 100 hurdles (20.58) and 300 hurdles (58.66) and Juliet Brady took the 100 (13.1) and 200 (27.72) for St. Bernard (2-1, 2-1).

    Boys' tennis

    • Waterford swept the four singles matches, led by Fadi Hage in the No. 1 spot, to edge Fitch 4-3. Alex Watterson, Elias Picinich and Julian Perez also picked up wins for the Lancers (5-3). Fitch (3-2) got a three-set victory from the No. 1 doubles team of Tim Lynch and Aidan McLean and also got doubles wins from Ron Pfisterer and Nate Kowalski and Andy Trinh and Caleb Robbins.

    • Finn Power, Eric Gu, Sujesh Kurumbail and Sumeet Kadian won singles matches for East Lyme in a 7-0 victory over Woodstock Academy. Jonathan Tan and Gilliem Colon swept their match at No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-0 for the Vikings (5-0).

    Girls' tennis

    • New London lost to Woodstock Academy 6-1. Francesca Ledoux won at No. 2 singles for New London (3-6).

    Boys' golf

    • East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 5-2 win over Stonington. Evan Kluge of East Lyme was the medalist with a 39, teammates Logan Rolfe (40) and Dan Singer (42) also won their matches and East Lyme (8-0) won the medal point 164-170. RJ Parrilla (40) and Jacob Geary (42) won matches for Stonington (4-3).

    • Bryce Reck shot a team-best 47 to lead Wheeler in a 6-1 victory over Montville at Stonington Country Club. Alec Rustici added a 49 in the win for the Lions (2-4), who won the team medal point 208-212. Grant Kortfelt was the individual medalist, shooting a 46 for Montville (3-4).

    • Mekih Rodriguez shot a 52 to lead New London in a 7-0 loss to Woodstock Academy at Great Neck Country Club. AJ McClain added a 53 in the loss for the Whalers (1-4).

    • Old Lyme beat Old Saybrook 175-187 in a Shoreline Conference match. Old Lyme's Corey Drummond and Old Saybrook's Ben O'Dell shared medalist honors with 5-over-par 40s at Fenwick Golf Course. Connor Maguire shot a 41 and Tom Creagen had a 43 for Old Lyme (5-2, 3-2).
