    Planting trees in Fort Trumbull

Wyeth Bonser, right, and Hayward Gatch dig holes as volunteers with the Fort Trumbull Memorial Orchard plant trees and seedlings on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, in the New London neighborhood. Gatch, co-founder of the New London Mutual Aid Collective, estimated they have about 15 fruit trees on the city-owned land and hope 80 percent will make it through the winter. The group's goal is to distribute and plant fruit trees around New London, as well as have some available at its aid giveaway in efforts to share food with the community. (Sarah Gordon/The Day)
