New London — Wyeth Bonser and Hayward Gatch and other volunteers with the Fort Trumbull Memorial Orchard were planting trees and seedlings on Thursday in the neighborhood.
Gatch, co-founder of the New London Mutual Aid Collective, estimated they have about 15 fruit trees on the city-owned land and hope 80 percent will make it through the winter. The group's goal is to distribute and plant fruit trees around New London, as well as have some available at its aid giveaway in efforts to share food with the community.
