    Local roundup: Tigers two-hit by Renegades

    Norwich — The Connecticut Tigers were held to two hits in a 3-1 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades in a New York-Penn League baseball game Friday night at Dodd Stadium.

    The Tigers (29-31) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Jake Holton homered. Starter Jacob Lopez allowed just the one hit over six innings for the Renegades (36-24), striking out seven with one walk. 

    The Tigers completed a sweep of Thursday's doubleheader against the Renegades with a 2-1, eight-inning win in the second game. The Tigers also won the first game 2-1 in eight innings.

    Kingston Liniak's single scored Jose King and Andrew Navigato for the walk-off win. Nick Quintana doubled for the Tigers. Bryce Tassin (2-0) got the win, allowing three hits and one unearned run over four innings. Tassin struck out six with one walk.

    The Tigers announced that pitcher Kory Behenna has been promoted to the Single-A West Michigan Whitecaps.

    ECML playoffs

    • The Three Rivers Sonics advanced to the Eastern Connecticut Major League finals with an 8-3 win over the Groton Minx on Thursday night in the third and deciding game of their series. They will face the Panera Pirates, who are after their sixth straight title. Game 1 is Sunday at Washington Park in Groton beginning at 1 p.m.

    Tyler Rokowski had two hits, Joe Hajj drove in two runs and Kyle Richards and Saxon Herbert had RBI doubles for the Sonics. Matt Driscoll singled, doubled, and drove in a run and Payton McNichol doubled and drove a run in for Groton.

    UConn to Host H.S. Football Night

    • UConn Athletics has announced the date of the 2019 High School Football Night at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. This event will take place at the UConn football home opener on Thursday, Aug. 29 when the Huskies take on Wagner. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and parking lots will open for tailgating beginning at 2 p.m.

    All high school football teams that register in advance will receive complimentary admission to the game. To register your team, please email your 2019 roster to marketing@uconn.edu. The deadline to register a team is Tuesday, Aug. 27.
