Nonprofit to host kids fishing tournament in New London
Nw London — The New England Science & Sailing Foundation is hosting a Kids Fishing Tourney at City Pier on Sept. 28.
This catch-and-release event is open to kids with all levels of experience. Parents and guardians also are welcome to participate but supplied fishing poles will be reserved for participants under age 16.
Fishing will be conducted from City Pier, and participants will be assisted by firefighters, police officers and NESS SEA AmeriCorps members. All bait comes as a donation from A.W. Marina. All fish will be measured, photographed for proof and released.
Registration is available online at bit.ly/2ke7V0N. Equipment is limited, and interested participants are encouraged to sign up online in advance.
The event starts with a check-in at 11 a.m. There will be a prize announcement at 12:30 p.m.
Parents and guardians ages 16 and over must have a valid saltwater fishing license from Connecticut or a reciprocal state. Prizes are reserved for participants under age 16 and will be given for the biggest fish, smallest fish and most fish.
The event is made possible by the generous support of A.W. Marina, the New London Police Department, the New London Fire Department and other community partners.
