    Local roundup: Waterford volleyball rallies to beat East Lyme

    Waterford — Ryleigh Gonyo recorded 22 kills and 22 digs as Waterford avenged an early-season loss to East Lyme with a 3-1 victory over the rival Vikings in a high school volleyball match on Wednesday night.

    The Lancers dropped the first set 28-26 before taking the next three, 25-16, 25-20 and 26-24. East Lyme (9-7) had beaten Waterford 3-1 back on Sept. 18.

    Briana Muckle had 19 digs and five aces and Sabrina Kobyluck added 28 assists for the Lancers (12-4), while Sophie Dubreiul finished with 20 digs, Ellie Meredith had 20 assists and Maya Delesdernier added 22 digs and 15 kills for the Vikings.

    In other matches:

    • Fitch lost the first game before roaring back for a 3-1 non-league victory over Guilford. Game scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21. Nora Ryan had 26 kills for the Falcons (11-5) while Karly Morales added 41 assists and six digs and Marlo Sim had 18 digs.

    • Maya Conley had 10 aces, six kills and 16 digs to highlight Norwich Free Academy's 25-11, 25-6, 25-14 win over Bacon Academy. Sarah Ericson added four aces and 27 assists for the Wildcats (6-10) while Kennedy Jakan had six kills and two aces.

    • Samarie Delgado had 10 service points, four aces, four assists, five kills and two blocks in Grasso Tech's 3-0 loss to Prince Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Game scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-13.

    • Joharys Perez-Rivera had seven digs and seven kills for Norwich Tech in a 3-0 loss to Goodwin Tech in the CTC. Game scores were 25-20, 25-16 and 26-24. The Warriors are 7-9 overall, 7-3 in the league.

    • Lyman Memorial improved to 13-1 overall with a sweep of Montville, winning 25-10, 25-17 and 25-11. Rori Curran had three kills, three blocks and three aces and Maya Hillman added three blocks, three kills and two digs for the Indians (8-8).

    • Morgan outlasted Old Lyme 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13 in the Shoreline Conference. Maddie Cann had 12 kills and eight digs for the Wildcats while Isabel Dean-Frazier had 15 assists and Olivia Tetreault added 10 digs.

    Boys' soccer

    • Billy Nile scored two goals to power St. Bernard past Grasso Tech 4-0 in a non-conference match. Tenzin Jamphel and Aidan Jakubielski also scored for the Saints (7-4-3) and goalie Martin Arvidson made four saves to earn the shutout. Gabriel Derosiers Berry had eight saves for the Eagles.

    • Jacob Rose scored three goals to help propel Montville to a 5-0 shutout of New London. Liam Cook and Cesa Amaya each had a goal while Ayden Frechette and Stephen Duhamel added an assist apiece for the Indians (8-3-3). Emmanuel Marin had 13 saves in goal for the Whalers (0-12).

    • Ian Spracklin's goal in the 16th minute lifted Wheeler to a 1-0 victory over Killingly. Bowen Baker made nine saves in goal to earn the shutout for the Lions (9-4-1).

    • Ryan Tetreault made 11 saves as Old Lyme played to a 1-1 non-conference team with Bacon Academy. Jesper Silberberg scored for the Wildcats (6-3-4) while Matt Voiland scored for the Bobcats (3-9-2) and goalies Ryan Claffey and Mike Whipple combined for four saves.

    Men's soccer

    • Mitchell College rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit while playing down a man due to a red card, beating Becker College 3-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference. Noah Clack scored the game-tying goal off an assist from NFA graduate David Hernandez in the 62nd minute. Then Julian Cortez and Marcelo Diaz converted goals about a minute apart inside the final nine minutes. Goalie Seth Strader, also of NFA, made four saves for the Mariners (3-9-1, 2-2), who've won two straight for the first time this season.             

    Girls' soccer

    • Katelyn Melinosky and Brooke Dowrey scored goals to lift Wheeler past Civic Leadership/Aerospace 2-1 in non-conference action. The Lions improved to 2-12.

    H.S.swimming

    • Elyse Gathy finished first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:28.53) and 100 backstroke (1:15.63) and swam a leg on the two winning relay teams while Lily Watson took first in the 100 freestyle (1:03.45) and 200 individual medley (2:36.52) in Waterford's 103-73 win over Ledyard in the Eastern Connecticut Conference. The Lancers climbed to 5-5, 5-3. Waterford freshman Camille Caldrello remained undefeated in ECC diving competition, scoring 191.15 points. Robin Zemlo won the 100 butterfly (1:25.66) and Katey Truncale captured the 400 freestyle (5:38.16) for the Colonels (2-7, 2-6).

    College volleyball

    • Katie Howley had her seventh double-double of the season as Connecticut College rallied for a 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 win over Mitchell. Howley finished with 13 kills and 11 digs for the Camels (7-12) while Dayna McCue added 17 digs and McKaela Simons had 25 assists, four aces and seven digs. Olivia DeLoach had 10 kills and 12 digs for the Mariners (11-100 while Cameron Childs added 15 digs and Claire Binfield and Lexi Hubbard combined for 23 assists.
